Meet Carl Thorp

Carl Thorp was born in Texas 1912 ? moved to California in 1928. He studied at San Diego State College and San Diego Academy of Fine Arts 1932 ? 1935.

Thorp has travelled, lectured and painted throughout Mexico, Canada and most of the United States. His work is represented in many public and private collections here and abroad, including 300 paintings in the Emmet Pendleton group in Red Bluff, California.

During the 1950?s he organized art schools in San Diego, Sacramento, San Francisco, Burlingame and La Mesa, California.

Thorp paintings are owned by many famous personalities such as Mr. Jim Bishop, author and syndicated columnist; Mr. Robert Merrill, composer of Funny Girl and other Broadway hits; Miss Connie Francis, singer; Congressman Robert Barry of New York and Dr. Gerald Burns, President United College Funds of America.

Thorp schedules his painting sessions throughout the New England states during the summer months and in New Orleans, Louisiana during the winter months. His subjects vary from coastlines to skylines, painting in traditional to semi-abstract techniques.
